So today what I wanna do is I wanna show you at Kinney Chiropractic, the most important technique that we utilize when someone comes in with either a bulged or a herniated disk.
So just to refresh your memory, a disk is the cushion, the shock absorber in between every vertebra of the spine.
And when there is a herniation or something pinching, coming from the disk or compressing the nerves out of there, it creates less space and less function of the nerves.
The nerves get swollen, they get inflamed. And ultimately ensues in a lot of lower back pain and often shooting pain into one or both of the legs.
So one of the things that we wanna be able to do is almost what we call a decompression or flexion distraction.
So this is called flection distraction, the technique that I’m gonna do on my patient Chrissy today.
And so, the way that this works is, you’re gonna lie face down. The patient’s gonna be lying face down.
The pelvis is gonna be in between, right in between the two sections of the flexion distraction table.
And ultimately, what’s gonna happen is the table is going to bend down at the waist.
And so, what this does is this flexion distraction technique opens those spinal joints.
It creates more room for the nerves, decompresses the disks, creates decreased intradiscal pressure, kinda brings blood flow to the muscles and the disks inside.
And as we’re decompressing, and as we’re releasing the pressure on the nerves, this is also stretching all of those deep, deep paraspinal muscles.
So it’s a multifold technique to create less stress in the joints, less stress on the disks, and obviously helps to take a lot of pressure off of the nerves.
So we utilize, this is one of the most important techniques that we use when any of my disk patients ever come into the office.

Also, when they get off the table, they can feel looser or notice that there is less pressure, less tension across the lower back spine.
