So today I want to talk to you about sciatica and how we here at Kinney Chiropractic can determine the cause of why you have sciatica or pain shooting into your legs.
So when we look at what a spine looks like front-to-back should line up at a nice straight line. The pelvis should be nice and level.
The nerves that exit out from the spine and this lower part of the lumbar area make up these big nerves that go down the backs of the legs that are called your sciatic nerves.
When nerves get pinched or compressed, or the spine shifts out of alignment, it can irritate the nerves in the lower back.
And it’s going to potentially start to shoot pain into the legs, one or the other, or sometimes both sciatic pain down both of your legs.
So the way that we determine what’s going on with the spine or if nerves are being pinched, what we call a subluxation in the spine affecting your sciatic nerves is we do very specific x-rays.
Motion X Rays for Sciatica in Belmar, NJ
In our office we do what’s called motion x-rays.
So we take a picture front to back to image or visualize what’s going on with the lumbar spine and is the spine straight and the pelvis nice and level.
And then we do what’s called motion x-rays where we have the patient bend one way and the other to see if there is proper motion and movement in that spine.
And then we take a picture of the lower back spine to the side.
So the patient stands this way.
We’re still imaging the lower spine, but we see if there’s nice spacing in between those bones, which is where the disks are, which creates this nice big opening or hole, which is where all those nerves exit out, which make up that big nerve that goes down into the leg.
So we don’t guess here at Kinney Chiropractic, we actually know because we take a thorough consultation and history, and then we perform a very thorough detailed orthopedic, neurologic and chiropractic exam.
And then we top it off with really specific digital x-rays so that we know exactly why you have your sciatica and we know exactly what to do to get it corrected.
