Get Rid of Low Back Pain After a Car Accident | Personal Injury Chiropractic in Belmar, NJ
Hi everybody, Dr. Jodi Kinney. Today I want to talk a little bit more about car accidents. And the injuries that we see most commonly after a car accident, one of the most common injuries is lower back pain. And sometimes lower back pain can be caused by a herniated disc.
When your body is Jarred around in an accident, either from a front or a side force, or even a rear ending, it’s enough force that can be put into your body, even a low impact force can cause certain parts of the spine to shift around and put abnormal stress on the desk. So when we look at a disc a disc is like this soft kind of cushioning material that’s in between the bones of your spine, okay, inside the disc is a jelly like core. So there’s some outer rings of tougher material, and then a jelly like core. And this creates a shock absorber, if you will, but it also opens up or creates a hole, which is where all these nerves exit out. In a collision, like a car accident, sometimes what can happen is some of that jelly material can start to push out or actually herniate and squeeze all the way out, which can put a tremendous amount of pinching and pressure on the nerves that exit out there. And if you don’t get this corrected over time, the inflammation and the swelling that occurs on that nerve can cause debilitating back pain can cause hip pain can shoot pain all the way down into the leg.
So it’s really important. If you’ve been in a car accident that you get your lower back checks and your neck check but if you’re having lower back pain, absolutely get your spine checked, so that we can alleviate any of that additional disk pressure, joint pressure, create a healthier alignment, healthier motion and movement in the spine and prevent you from having long term pain after your accident. So for sure if you’ve been in any kind of injury, car accident, motorcycle accident, anything where even initially you don’t even think you have that much pain, it’s important just get your spine shots so that you don’t suffer down the road.
