Everybody Dr. Jodi Kinney here, your chiropractor for neck pain at Kinney Chiropractic Belmar, NJ.
I’m going to explain to you why I take pictures on every patient that comes into my office with headaches.
When we look at what a normal neck spine looks like on an x-ray, what we should normally see when the patient’s facing this way, the side view of the neck should have a nice banana shaped curve to it.
Nice big spaces in between the bones. Overall, the curves should be about 30 or 40 degrees.
Remember now that you have the layers of muscle too in the back of the head that a touch all the way up to the skull.
So it’s important to keep that nice curve to the neck because when you start to lose that curve, not only does it compress the joints and the discs improperly, it makes the muscles in the back of the head and the neck have to work a whole lot harder, which is gonna give you potentially tension headaches, maybe disc problems which can cause headaches, maybe even migraine headaches.
Chiropractic Neck Pain Treatment in Belmar, NJ
So this is my patient that came into me. When she first started, she had serious, serious migraine and tension headaches. Debilitating taking Advil, Excedrin, she had rescue migraine medication.
She was on a lot of medication for her headaches and this is what her neck initially looked like.
She had a reversed curve to her neck spine.
So this made all of these muscles have to work a lot harder and it compressed the discs that loss of curve was compressing her disc and the nerves giving rise to a lot of her headaches.
In just a few months of her care, we actually were able to get a positive 15 degree curve in her neck.
So she went from negative 10 to positive 15 in just a few months.
And she left my office while she’s still under care, I should tell you that first, but she got done with her original course of corrective care, her initial treatment plan, not only with a positive 25 degree improvement in her curve, but she was off all her medication, she was not taking any rescue medication anymore, she wasn’t even taking Advil.
She was sleeping. She was doing better at work and she was having a much better quality of life because her headaches were gone.
We would never have known this if we didn’t take x-rays, we would never know that she had a loss of curve had we not done pre and post x-rays.
So at Kinney Chiropractic, it’s crucial when patients come into our office, we want to know, we don’t want to guess.
We want to know what shape your spine is in before we begin any kind of treatment plan.
So if you’re suffering with headaches, tension, headaches, migraine headaches, then you need to come in and get your spine checked to make sure that you have a good curve in your neck.
Thank you so much for tuning in. We’ll see you again soon.
